Top P. O. Dixon Historical Romance Books You May Want to Think Twice About Before Reading

As the author, it is incumbent upon me to warn readers about certain books in my catalog that, for one reason or another, may cause you to question what you, and most especially, yours truly are about. There, I said it. Consider yourself forewarned.

A Favorite Daughter
Absolutely avoid this one if you prefer your Austenesque stories with Mr. Bennet alive and well. He dies before the story even begins, leaving Elizabeth to navigate heartbreak, duty, and difficult decisions without him. Unless you’re one of those readers who actually enjoys a bold take on Austen’s iconic characters, you will want to avoid this one. You can thank me later.

Bewitched, Body and Soul
If you prefer stories where Elizabeth stays quietly in the countryside, avoiding any bold endeavors, then this tale is not for you. In this narrative, Elizabeth ventures into town with a determined spirit to reunite her sister with her lover. This book has been known to cause sudden emotional attachment, prolonged sighing, and inexplicable re-reading.

A Lasting Love Affair
Prefer tales where Mr. Darcy remains steadfastly single, content with his wealth and sporting pursuits? Then this story is not for you. Of course, if you’re open to watching that fall apart in spectacular fashion… you’ll only have yourself to blame.

Impertinent Strangers
By all means, do not read this book if the idea of stories where misunderstandings smolder, pride clashes with prejudice, and romantic tension stretches deliciously from page one to the very end is your abhorrence. Where every glance means something, and every silence means even more? Who would want all that?

Still a Young Man
A determined younger Mr. Darcy. A head-strong, widowed Elizabeth with a guarded heart. Love at first sight on his part. Not so fast on hers. Throw in all the prospects of gaiety a season in town affords—and a fair number of others vying for both their affections. Honestly, who finds that sort of thing appealing? No one asked for this story. And yet here it is.

Lady Elizabeth: Everything Will Change Book 1
If you prefer your Pride & Prejudice variations without any unexpected twists, this tale isn’t for you. Elizabeth Bennet as the granddaughter of a duke? That’s not canon—it’s chaos. And we all know how addictive chaos can be. Dearest reader, you have been warned.

So Far Away: Everything Will Change Book 2
Since you’ve been warned to steer clear of Lady Elizabeth for all the reasons stated, you just might want this one, too. After all, who would want to read about Elizabeth Bennet uncovering secrets about her past, returning to Longbourn to reclaim her place among the Bennets, and making Mr. Darcy wait endlessly as she sorts out her feelings? Surely you have better things to do—picking up a copy of Fordyce’s, perhaps.

In short, avoid these books at all costs—unless, of course, you happen to enjoy charming, can’t putdownable historical romance with delightful paths to happily ever after… but surely, that isn’t you, or is it?
