From the Beautiful Cassandra to Miss Lydia Benet and Tales of Two Young Ladies in Want of Adventure
Jane Austen’s The Beautifull Cassandra is short, strange, and delightfully self-assured. Written when she was just twelve, it follows a young woman who sets out in a bonnet and promptly causes mayhem—for no reason other than that she feels like it. There is no moral. There is no growth. Only twelve chapters of pure chaos. It is perfect.
And it gave me an idea.
What if Lydia Bennet—yes, that Lydia—had her own version of Cassandra’s whirlwind day? One that stayed true to Austen’s youthful wit, but with a great deal more at stake. That question led to A Young Lady’s Incredible Brighton Adventure.
This new story follows Lydia during her time in Brighton, but rather than revisiting the events of Pride and Prejudice, it offers a completely different take. The setup may seem familiar, but this Lydia has agency, instinct, and a surprising sense of timing. And like Cassandra, she is determined to enjoy herself every step of the way.
Here’s a sneak peek, now streaming on my YouTube channel. Enjoy!
