June is Audiobook Month Kickoff!
Have you ever been well into a new month before learning what that particular month commemorates? This month, I am ahead of the curve. I’ve learned that June is audiobook month and I intend to dedicate copious hours spreading the word.

The fact is, I love listening to audiobooks to the point that the availability of an accompanying narration often is the deciding factor in whether I purchase a book. I am motivated by the time-savings that being able to switch back and forth between a book (whether print or ebook) and its companion audiobook affords. Talk about a great way to tackle a growing to-be-read list and still keep up with one’s busy schedule. I liken it to having one’s cake and eating it too—no plug intended.

I would love to know what you think of audiobooks. If you already listen to and enjoy audiobooks, what’s your favorite reason? Maybe you’re still on the fence or you have decided audiobooks are not your cup of tea. I’d love to hear from you as well.

  1. I prefer paperbacks though I have found that doing certain activities like sewing say, audiobooks are great

    1. What a great idea, Vesper. I am kicking off a home remodeling project, and I have given some thought to pulling out my sewing machine to help save on the costs for some of the window treatments. Now, I have another incentive to make some of the curtains and shades. I'll be saving money while keeping up with my TBR pile. :-)

Thanks so much for taking part in the June Is Audiobook Month giveaway. Best of luck!

  2. I prefer paperbacks. But since I am running out of bookshelf space, I now prefer e-books after I got an iPad mini. I'm not a fan of audiobooks because I like to see the words that I'm reading. Otherwise I can't concentrate and my mind flies elsewhere.

    1. My bookshelves are crowded as well. Thank goodness for ereaders. :-) I'm finding that my Kindle Fire HD is my favorite when it comes to reading. Of course, I often listen to book even when I am reading the pages ... that is until I decide to skip ahead in the book.

Thanks so much for commenting on your preference, Lúthien84. Best of luck in the giveaway!

  3. In the car, on the bus, or the airplane is when I appreciate audiobooks so much. When we are in the US my husband drives truck and enjoys listening to a book to fill the long hours.

    1. Listening to audiobooks while traveling sounds wonderful, Joy. I have yet to appreciate the experience, because I haven't traveled much of late. However, I do have a lengthy car trip planned this summer. I'll make sure to pack my Kindle ... and a car adaptor.

Thanks so much for taking part in the giveaway. Best of luck!

  4. I love audiobooks as well as physical and ebooks. When I'm driving, I've always got an audiobook on the go and often listen when I'm cooking or gardening as well.

Thank you for another giveaway, Pam.

    1. You're welcome, Anji! I tend to offer every excuse I can find to avoid cooking. Perhaps if I listened to audiobooks during meal preparation, I would enjoy it more. I think I'll give it a try. :-)

  5. I enjoy audio books when I am doing housework, gardening or commuting because I then feel I am not wasting time. To me time not spent reading is a waste of time. I found audiobooks about 3 months ago. I couldn't be happier!

  8. I love books any way I can get 'em!! And yours most of all, but I may have told you that before! I like to sit back with a great paperback when time permits. Or having my kindle when I am on the go or during my lunch time while at work. And audiobooks are great when I am driving; especially on long drives! :)

    Good luck to all!!

    1. It's true, Liz, but I always enjoy hearing how much you enjoy my stories. :-) I am reading a paperback this week. It's a nonfiction. I love being able to highlight important parts for future reference. Still, I might have finished it by now were it an audiobook or even a kindle edition, for I would listen to that 'delightful' kindle reader voice. All three types have their advantages and I am sure I would be disappointed if any one of them no longer existed.

Thanks so much for celebrating June Is Audiobook Month with me. Best of luck!

  10. Speaking as a long time fan of audiobooks (20+ years), audiobooks are AMAZING!. I've recently begun simultaneous reading/listening to books....I've heard this called immersion reading....and I love it. I read the print book while listening to the audiobook played on an iPod Touch at 1.5x to 2.0x speed. It sounds strange if you listen to just the audiobook but with the print in front of you your brain adjusts and it sounds normal. I've only tried this while riding my exercise bike so I'm not sure how well it work in other situations. I get most of my audiobooks through my library's Overdrive site and they have a great selection.
