Mr. Darcy would never do that!
Who has ever read Jane Austen fan fiction and not uttered words to that effect,
whether in astonishment or perhaps even disgust?
Try as one might, I suppose one cannot help ascribing today's customs and practices to literary heroes and heroines of times long since in the past.
I found myself in the middle of doing that exact thing this morning. In the midst of my research, I came across the question of whether cousins married during my story’s historical timeline and if so, would there be any issues of hemophilia?
My mind immediately shouted, "Marry one's own cousin! Darcy would never be expected to do that!"
Right?
